Rodney Hunt founded in 1840 by Mr. Rodney Hunt, the company's earliest products were plows, simple wooden machines, and the wooden water wheels and gates used in New England's textile mills.

Surviving a major flood in 1936 and hurricane in 1938, the company grew significantly over the next decade, in part due to the increased demand for textile machinery and equipment during and after World War II. Rodney Hunt txtile wet-finishing machines supplied an internation market during this period, and Rodney Hunt sluice gates and other water control equipment were building a significant doemestic market throughout the United States.

The stratiegic decision to focus on the design and manufacture of products serving the growing water control industry lead to the sale of the textile wet-finishing division in 1975, and the industrial roll division in 1983. In 1991, Rodney Hunt Company purchased AC Valve, Inc. and expanded its comprehensive gate and valve product offering for water control applications.

In 1995, Rodney Hunt Company merged operations with GA Industries, combining the engineering and manufacturing resources of both companies. Together, they now offer the most complete flow control package in the world for both open-channel and closed-conduit applications.

   Mobile Flood Protection Walls

The following was taken from IBS website: http://www.hochwasserschutz.de/en/produktbereiche/index_2210002.php

Here you can find further information about IBS. We are one of the leading companies in flood protection. We are even market leader in the field of mobile flood protection. Our range of products includes dam beams, spill barriers and channel covers. Beside products for flood protection we have also invented the container-filler, a device for loading and unloading containers.

Our company was founded in 1994 to produce spill barriers. Spill barrier systems are suited for quickly locking and blocking building openings and yard entrances to prevent uncontrolled spilling of water-hazardous substances in case of an emergency or fire. Dam beams or dam boards are similar flood protection methods. Similar to spill barriers dam beams prevent water from spilling out of openings. Stop logs are used to cover channels. You can also use a stop log to control the amount or the direction of water.

Thanks to mobile flood protection which can be installed in front of the buildings we are able to protect entire city quarters and villages from flood. The advantage of mobile flood protection is that the townscape does not have to be changed. Our flood protection walls are able to stand free or can directly be mounted at buildings. In the field of mobile flood protection we develop constantly. We work together with experts in flood protection. In this way we can create specific mobile flood protection walls for our clients.

Concerning the topic of mobile flood protection and flood protection system we are on the spot of exhibitions and conventions to exchange experiences in flood protection. Cities which need a flood protection system like Hamburg, Cologne or Vienna can trust in our experience.

The container filler that we developed is a unloading and loading device for containers. Bulky goods are loaded into standard containers with little effort. The container filler is available as stationary and mobile construction. We fulfil all required production steps for dam beams or spill barriers. Whether mobile flood protection, container filler or spill barrier – we guarantee maximum production quality.

Our clients for dam beams, spill barriers or container filler are from all over Germany. Mobile flood protection walls and spill barriers protect cities and towns at the rivers Inn, Rhine or Moselle. A flood protection system has also successfully been installed at the rivers Danube, Elbe, and Isar.

We export our products for flood protection and the container filler worldwide. The recipients of dam beams, spill barriers are England, France and the Netherlands. We also sell our flood protection technique to USA, Japan and Australia.

To get to know more about flood protection please look at our homepage. There we present products like dam beams or spill barriers. You also get information about topics like mobile flood protection and our container loading device. You can find some references for mobile flood protection, stop log or spill barrier. Pictures of the container filler, flood protection wall or spill barrier can also be found. If you have any questions concerning mobile flood protection, dam beams or spill barriers you can contact us at any time.

The K-System is a fully mobile flood defense concept. It does not require any pre-engineering on site (for instance permanent foundation elements cast into concrete ground works) and so overcomes financial and technical drawbacks usually associated with major flood defense schemes. The System is therefore ideal for use in a wide range of locations, requiring only the minimum time and manpower resources.

Design Features

  • The System is fabricated from robust and durable certified materials (aluminum or stainless steel)
  • Rigorously tested fro hydrostatic load conditions
  • Designed to withstand flood heights of up to 550, 900, 1,350, 1,800, 2,000 and 2,500 mm
  • Specially designed anchorage system

The major advantage of the System is that the pressure exerted by the flood water contributes to the stability of the System on the ground, due to the 45 degree inclination. The modular design provides enhanced flexibility to suit widely varying height conditions.

Key Benefits

  • Preliminary ground engineering works are not required
  • Modular design allows flexibility to suit various site conditions
  • Rapidly deployed before a flood event
  • Thoroughly tested under full hydrostatic load conditions
  • Requires no specialist knowledge or training – simple instructions supplied are all that is required
  • Very competitive capital cost,  compared to permanent defense

Catastrophic flood events are expected to occur with greater frequency in the coming years, and with increasing levels of unpredictability. The high costs associated with flooding, both financial and emotional, can not always be supported by victims. The BAUER-IBS DEFENSE enables the mitigation or even avoidance, of the HUGE COSTS OF FLOOD DAMAGE.

System Description

1. General

A mobile protection system enables the elevation of flood protection systems while leaving the townscape, the sight and the traffic conditions to and across the river largely unchanged. It therefore preserves the identity and appeal of the city as well as the attractiveness and quality of life of the real estate properties close to the river. In order to achieve this added flood protection while leaving the everyday situation largely unchanged under observation of today's safety standards, the construction and operation of a mobile flood protection system has to meet the highest demands.

The principle of mobile flood protection walls made of dam beam systems

In principle, the mobile elements of the IBS systems consist of two components. The center support posts, which are mounted at regular distances in case of a flood, and the dam beams that are stacked between the center support posts.

Two additional components are required for activating the protection function: screw fittings and pressing tools. The centre support posts are screwed together with the stationary reinforced concrete construction via tapped bushes. In order to activate the system's high degree of impermeability, the dam beams must be pressed in vertical direction with the pressing tools. This seals the dam beams and ensures that the bottom dam beam is clamped on the installation surface. This system consisting of centre support post, dam beams, screws and pressing tools enables the construction of mobile walls with a height in excess of 4.0 m with just 4 system components.

Radiuses larger than 20 m (with a support post distance of 2.0 m) or larger than 30 m (with a support post distance of 3.0 m) can be formed with standard support posts.

Angle supports are used for hinge points.
Inclines of up to 5% with surface unevenness of up to 15 mm can be compensated. Height protrusions (steps) are overcome with flood height transitions. Depending on the post interspaces, it is possible to construct free-standing support post constructions in excess of 2.0 m. Rear support posts are used in case of larger stress on the construction.

·   Dam beams made of aluminum extruded sections (AlMgSi)

·   Support posts as full-aluminum constructions (AlMgSi) or combinations of aluminum extruded sections (AlMgSi) with hot-galvanized steel foot (S235)

·   End profile made of aluminum extruded sections (AlMgSi)

·   Pressing tools made of Gk-AlSi12 / V2a (W-no. 1.4301)

·   Anchor plates made of stainless steel (V2A, 1.4301 / V4a, 1.4571) with black steel anchoring

·      Seals made of EPDM, PE / PUR

Due to the applied high-quality materials, which have been used in flood protection for many years, we guarantee long durability under proper storage conditions. The system is designed in such a way that planned replacement purchases are not required during the material service life.

Assembly and Disassembly Times

The time period required for the assembly of the mobile flood protection system consists of:

·                 the alarm time - The time from the issue of the alarm and the readiness of the
          assembly personnel

·                the loading time - Time for loading the transport vehicles

·                the transport time - driving time from the storage location to the deployment location

·                the securing time / unloading time – time to secure the traffic along the flood defense
route, unload the vehicles and distribute the storage and transport containers along the
          defense line

·              assembly time - the time for preparing the defense line, placing and screwing down the
        support p
osts and inserting/bracing the dam beams

Only the setup time is significantly influenced by the system. However, the local situation, e.g. the area behind the defense line, the placement of support posts level to the ground or on embankments, etc, also have an influence on the assembly time. The construction of a 100 m long, straight mobile flood protection wall with a support distance of 3.0 m and a protection height of 1.20 m requires 1 to 2 hours and 4 to 8 instructed workers on average with a high-quality system configuration. Twice the time has to be calculated for disassembly, removal to the storage containers and cleaning.

Required Tools, Lifting Equipment and Transport Vehicles

The mobile elements (e.g. dam beams, support rods) are stored in transport containers with a maximum weight of approx. 850 kg each. Any lifting equipment (e.g. tractor, fork lift, front loader, etc.) with transport fork or any type of crane (slewing pillar crane, hall crane, truck crane, etc.) are suited for this purpose. All vehicles/trailers with a loading area of at least 2m x 3m can be used for transport. The assembly of the system only requires simple tools (ratchet wrench with the corresponding hexagon sockets).

2. System Variants

The following product types are available:

·                       IBS BSH-I 50 with 50 mm wide and 166 mm or 300 mm high dam beams for application
of walls with a maximum height of 1.50 m

·                       IBS BSH-I 100 light with 100 mm wide and 150 mm high dam beams for application of
walls with a maximum height of 3.0m

These product types provide technical variation options that allow custom-tailored solutions for just about any project situation.

3. Storage

We provide an advanced storage technology for our system. This technology allows the contact-free storage of the dam beams and support posts. The system is stored in hot-galvanized steel palettes equipped with fork tracks, crane stop positions, stackable palette feet and tension belts. Due to the contact-free storage of the individual parts on the steel palettes, these can be simply rinsed off with a water hose after use.
